COMMERCIAL FORECLOSURES - THE NEXT CASUALTIES OF THE FINANCIAL CRISIS Governor Corzine signed the Paid Family Leave Bill (A873) last year. An increase in payroll taxes to fund the program went into effect in January 2009. As of July 1, 2009 all eligible New Jersey employees are entitled to take paid leave for the birth of child or for a family member’s (including in-laws and siblings) illness. The new act impacts employers both large and small. This information seminar will provide attorneys and human resource professionals with a comprehensive overview
of the act as well as discuss problems that employers are likely to encounter when administering leave.

A timely discussion of New Jersey’s new Paid Family Leave Act, including…
• Definition of Covered Employees
• Notice requirements
• Calculating periods of disability and length of leave
• Determining “Average Weekly Wage”
• Definition of “Family Members”
• Impact on domestic partnerships and civil unions
• Definition and required documentation of “Serious Health Condition”

• Impact on private disability plans
• How leave is calculated
• Treatment and calculation of intermittent leave
• What if the employee who is taking leave becomes disabled?
• What can happen if an employer refuses to grant family leave?
